Smart Award for Education
Technologies for Learning Group is a Winnipeg based e-Learning company with a growing national and international reputation for innovative learning solutions. TLG delivers learning management software, powerful online learning content and instructional design expertise to organizations, corporations and government.

Smart Award for Research
Dr. Naranjan S. Dhalla is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Centre. Dr. Dhalla holds numerous prestigious positions and has received many awards in a remarkable career that spans more than 40 years.

Smart Award for Innovation
ProfitMaster is dedicated to being the leader in information management and e-business solutions in Canada's hardware, home improvement and building supply industry. ProfitMaster was first established in 1982 in Arborg, Manitoba. In 1992, the company moved to Winnipeg where they currently serve over 355 client locations from coast to coast.

Smart Award for Business
Protegra Technology Group Inc. is a Canadian company with a proven experience developing and integrating enterprise software solutions. Protegra clients are found in an array of industries, from financial services sector to government, agriculture and healthcare. Protegra's innovative Escentia Information Technology delivers a clear business process orientation, definition and meaningful enterprise application service to enterprise clients in Canada, United States, Europe and Japan.
Accepting the Award is Wadood Ibrahim, CEO of Protegra Technologies Group. Renee Sierra of PiOut Corporation presents the Award.
Smart Award for Recreation & Culture
Mountain Equipment Co-op was formed in 1971 in British Columbia. Since then 8 locations have been opened across Canada. Mountain Equipment has become Canada's leading supplier of quality outdoor gear and clothing. With nearly 2 million members MEC is a vibrant retail cooperative. MEC Winnipeg is only the second building in Canada to achieve the National C2000 Green Building Standard, the first was the MEC store in Ottawa.

Smart Award for Technology
InfoMagnetics Technologies Corporation specializes in products and services in the area of satellite and wireless multimedia and information systems. IMT is a Canadian company, with the head office in Winnipeg. IMT is comprised of two groups, the Information Systems Group and the Antennas and Electromagnetics group. Dr. Moe Barakat, CEO and President, has extensive technical and managerial experience in Communications and Information Systems spanning more than 35 years.
Accepting the Award is Dr. Moe Barakat, CEO and President of InfoMagnetics Technologies Corporation. Carole Marshall, Senior Partner of Modern Earth presents the Award.

Smart Award for Health
National Microbiology Laboratory is Health Canada's main public health laboratory. It is co-located with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's National Centre for Foreign Animal Health on Arlington Street. NML is a international leader in the research and control of infectious diseases. NML's stature as a world class organization has been evidenced by requests from the World Health Organization for NML to send researchers to participate in SARS investigation in both Hong Kong and China, as well as to respond to an Ebola outbreak in Congo.
Accepting the Award on behalf of NML is Dr. Amin Kabani. Len Andrusiak of behealthycanada presents the Award.

Smart Award for IT Development
Five years ago Brandon Regional Health Authority began a journey that today marks the BRHA as being one of the most technically advanced healthcare facilities not only in the Province of Manitoba but also in Canada. One of the main forces behind that accomplishment is Rod Pohl, Director of Information Technology. It is noteworthy that BRHA is being recognized throughout the United States as an innovator in healthcare management due to vision, progressive thinking and an ability to execute.
Accepting the Award is Rod Pohl. Jeff Chapman, CEO of Zinger Wireless presents the Award.

Smart Award for Community
Rick Workman is a native of Manitoba who graduated from the U of M in 1969 with an engineering degree. Rick spent more than 31 years with IBM. Rick has a very long list of community achievements that include: the Red River College Capital Campaign; Board member Destination Winnipeg; Chair U of M Science Council; corporate accounts United Way; Technology skills committee from 1999 to 2001.
Accepting the Award is Rick Workman, COO and Vice President of Momentum Healthware. Murray Matiowsky, Manager of the Communications Department Manitoba Hydro presents the Award.

Smart Award for a Community Organization
Red River College - Princess Street Campus receives the Community Organization Smart Award for the innovative and dynamic programming located at the Princess Street Campus. While the campus itself has deservedly received international acclaim for its beauty, heritage preservation, energy efficient design and technical sophistication, it was built to support the creative post-secondary programs needed to fuel the Knowledge Economy of the 21st century. Through Smart programming RRC will continue to deliver on its mission to build a prosperous and sustainable province advancing the economic cultural and social progress of all.
